[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 19일 오후 부산진구에서 ‘우리동네 사회가치경영(ESG) 센터’ 7호점 개소식을 개최했다.

이날 행사에는 박형준 부산시장, 이헌승(국민의힘) 국회의원, 김영욱 부산진구청장, 배영숙 시의원, 장인호 BNK부산은행 개인고객그룹장 등 지역 인사들이 참석했다.  

이번 부산진구점은 폐원한 보현어린이집을 개조해 만든 사례로, 저출산·고령화로 생긴 도심 유휴시설을 활용한 ESG 실천 모델로 평가된다. 시는 이곳을 ‘환경과 지구를 지키는 지속 가능한 실천 거점’으로 삼고 주민 중심의 친환경 프로그램을 운영한다.  

센터에서는 폐플라스틱, 아이스팩, 커피박 등 자원순환 활동과 탄소중립 실천 교육, 자전거 발전기와 미니 수력발전소 체험 등의 프로그램이 진행된다. 또한 자전거 발전기로 만든 전기로 충전한 배터리를 활용해 무료 휴대전화 충전과 전포동 카페거리 연계 커피 제공 서비스도 운영된다.

부산시는 이를 통해 ESG 인식 확산은 물론 위기가구 발굴과 고독사 예방 등 통합 돌봄 사업으로도 연계할 계획이다.  

시는 올해 유럽연합(EU) 탄소국경조정제도 시행에 맞춰 지역 공공기관과 협업해 ‘우리동네 사회가치경영(ESG) 센터’를 연내 16호점까지 확대할 방침이다. 2022년부터 총 9억7천만 원을 지원해 온 한국주택금융공사 등과의 협력도 강화해 부산을 친환경 ESG 도시로 발전시키겠다는 목표다.  

박형준 시장은 “ESG 센터는 15분 도시 조성사업의 핵심 거점으로, 시민이 생활권 내에서 탄소중립을 실천하는 공간”이라며 “공공과 기업, 시민이 함께 만드는 ESG 행정을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The city of Busan held an opening ceremony Thursday afternoon for its seventh *“Community ESG Management Center”* in Busanjin District. Mayor Park Heong-joon attended the event along with Busanjin District Chief Kim Young-uk, National Assembly Member Lee Hun-seung, City Councilor Bae Young-sook, and BNK Busan Bank Executive Jang In-ho.  

The new center was created by repurposing a closed daycare facility, transforming an idle urban space into a sustainable community hub. The city described it as a place for residents to practice eco-friendly and socially responsible living.  

The Busanjin ESG Center will offer a range of environmental education and recycling programs, including upcycling waste plastic, ice packs, and coffee grounds. Visitors can also experience carbon-neutral learning programs such as bicycle-powered generators, mini hydropower systems, and hands-on renewable energy activities.  

Additionally, the center will provide free phone charging using batteries powered by bicycle generators and offer free coffee in partnership with nearby cafés in Jeonpo-dong. Busan plans to link the project to community welfare programs, including outreach for vulnerable households and efforts to prevent social isolation among seniors.  

To prepare for the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which took effect in January, the city aims to expand the ESG Center network to 16 locations this year, in collaboration with local public institutions such as the Korea Housing Finance Corporation. Busan has received 9.7 billion won in cumulative support from the corporation since 2022.  

“ESG centers are a key element of the 15-Minute City initiative, where residents can practice carbon neutrality in their own neighborhoods,” Mayor Park said. “Busan will continue to expand this new model of governance that brings the public, businesses, and citizens together under the ESG vision.”
