[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 배상훈 국립부경대학교 총장이 대학 발전을 위해 사재 1억 원을 기부하며 ‘개교 80주년 기부 릴레이’의 8번째 주자로 나섰다.

배 총장은 16일 오전 대학본부 접견실에서 발전기금 전달식을 열고 대학 혁신과 세계적 도약을 위한 마중물로 써달라며 기금 1억 원을 전달했다. 이번 기부는 국립부경대가 추진 중인 개교 80주년 기념 기부 릴레이의 일환으로, 배 총장은 통합 대학 제8대 총장이라는 상징성을 담아 8번째 기부자로 참여했다.

배 총장은 전달식에서 국립부경대가 대한민국 최초의 수산 고등교육기관과 근대식 공업기술 교육기관으로 출발해 종합국립대학 최초의 통합을 이뤄낸 역사를 강조했다. 그는 "오랜 역사 속에서 축적된 학문적 전통과 혁신 정신을 바탕으로 시대 변화에 능동적으로 대응하겠다"며 "미래 사회와 산업을 선도하는 강한 국립대학으로 도약하는 데 힘을 보태겠다"고 밝혔다.

앞서 이번 기부 릴레이에는 정용표 케이에이엠 대표이사, 박필선 세영식품 대표, 부경CEO아카데미 원우회, 박세호 우주씰링스그룹 회장, 금대수 꿈잡끼교육네트웍스 이사장, BNK금융그룹, 정대규 인리치인재교육원 대표이사 등이 참여하며 대학 발전에 뜻을 모았다.

국립부경대는 올해 개교 80주년과 통합 30주년을 동시에 맞이한다. 대학 측은 이번 기부 릴레이로 모인 발전기금을 활용해 연구중심대학, AX(AI 전환) 혁신대학, 글로벌 혁신대학 구축 등 미래 비전 실현에 박차를 가할 계획이다.

배 총장은 "용기와 혁신, 도전으로 미래를 여는 강한 대학이라는 비전 아래 새로운 시대를 열어가겠다"며 대학의 혁신 노력에 대한 지역사회의 지속적인 관심과 성원을 당부했다.

Bae Sang-hoon, President of Pukyong National University (PKNU), donated 100 million won of his personal funds to support the university's development, joining the 80th-anniversary relay donation campaign as the eighth contributor.

President Bae held a ceremony at the university headquarters on the morning of March 16 to deliver the development fund. His contribution serves as a catalyst for the university’s vision to represent Busan, the maritime capital, and leap forward as a global institution. 

As the eighth president since the university’s historic merger, Bae chose to be the eighth runner in the relay to symbolize his leadership and commitment to the institution's growth.

During the ceremony, Bae highlighted PKNU’s roots as South Korea’s first higher education institution for fisheries and modern industrial technology. He noted that the university has grown into a leading national institution through the bold decision to become the first integrated comprehensive national university in the country.

"Based on the academic traditions and spirit of innovation accumulated throughout our long history, we will actively respond to the changes of the era," Bae said. "We will strive to leap forward as a strong national university that leads future society and industry."

The 80th-anniversary relay has already seen participation from various donors, including Jung Yong-pyo, CEO of KAM; Park Pil-sun, CEO of Seyeong Food; the PKNU CEO Academy Alumni Association; Park Se-ho, Chairman of Wooju Sealings Group; Keum Dae-su, Chairman of Dream Job Ki Education Network; BNK Financial Group; and Jung Dae-gyu, CEO of Enrich Human Resources Education Center.

Marking its 80th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of its merger this year, PKNU plans to utilize the funds to establish itself as a research-centered, AI-transformation (AX), and global innovation university.

Bae emphasized the university's new vision: "A strong university opening the future through courage, innovation, and challenge." He called for continued public interest and support as the university embarks on this new era of transformation.
