[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산국제어린이청소년영화제는 한국 단편경쟁 부문인 ‘새로운 별빛’을 정식 경쟁 섹션으로 전환하고 첫 공모를 시작한다고 밝혔다.

‘새로운 별빛’은 어린이와 청소년을 주인공으로 한 한국 영화의 증가 흐름에 주목해 신진 영화인을 발굴하고 지원하기 위해 지난해 신설된 프로그램이다. 지난해에는 초청작 가운데 후보를 선정해 시상했으며, 올해부터는 공식 공모와 심사를 거치는 경쟁 부문으로 운영된다.

부산국제어린이청소년영화제는 어린이와 청소년 서사가 한국 영화의 주요 흐름으로 자리 잡고 있다고 보고, 단편영화를 통해 새로운 창작자들의 시선을 발굴한다는 계획이다.

공모 대상은 2025년 1월 이후 제작이 완료된 20분 이내의 단편영화다. 대학생 및 성인 감독이면 누구나 출품할 수 있다. 어린이, 청소년 또는 가족을 소재로 하거나 이들의 삶을 다룬 작품을 대상으로 하며, 극영화, 애니메이션, 다큐멘터리 등 형식에는 제한이 없다.

접수 기간은 2026년 2월 12일부터 3월 17일 오후 2시까지다. 출품은 부산국제어린이청소년영화제 공식 홈페이지를 통해 온라인으로 진행된다. 본선 진출작은 4월 22일 홈페이지를 통해 발표된다.

본선 진출작은 예심을 거쳐 선정되며, 영화제 기간 중 본선 심사를 통해 ‘새로운별빛상’과 상금이 수여된다. 국내외 청소년 감독 작품을 대상으로 한 ‘레디 액션 18’ 부문에서도 한 작품을 선정해 ‘새로운별빛상 18’을 시상한다.

이현정 집행위원장은 “한국 영화의 미래를 이끌 신진 영화인들의 신선한 시각과 열정이 담긴 작품들을 기다린다”며 “어린이와 청소년의 삶을 응원하는 창작자들의 많은 관심과 참여를 바란다”고 말했다.

The Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival has launched “New Starlight,” a newly established Korean short film competition section, and opened its first official call for entries.

“New Starlight” was introduced last year to support and discover emerging filmmakers focusing on stories centered on children and adolescents. While the section previously operated through an invitation-based selection, it has been upgraded this year to a full competition with an open call and formal jury process.

The festival said the move reflects the growing presence of child- and youth-centered narratives in contemporary Korean cinema and aims to identify new short films that portray present-day realities from young perspectives.

Eligible entries include short films completed after January 2025 with a running time of 20 minutes or less. University students and adult directors are both eligible to apply. Films must feature children, adolescents or families as central subjects or explore their lives in depth. All genres are accepted, including fiction, animation and documentary.

Submissions will be accepted from Feb. 12 to March 17 at 2 p.m. local time through the festival’s official website. Finalists will be announced on April 22.

Selected films will advance through a preliminary review and be judged during the festival period. Winning films will receive the New Starlight Award and prize money. An additional award, the New Starlight Award 18, will be presented to one film selected from the “Ready, Action! 18” section, which showcases works by youth filmmakers.

Festival Executive Director Lee Hyun-jung said the festival is looking forward to works that reflect the fresh perspectives and passion of emerging filmmakers and encouraged strong participation from creators who support stories about the lives of children and adolescents.
