[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 행정안전부가 주관한 ‘대한민국 새단장’ 평가에서 전국 17개 시도 중 최우수 광역자치단체로 선정됐다. 이번 수상으로 시는 특별교부세 2억 원의 인센티브를 받게 됐다.

‘대한민국 새단장’은 추석과 ‘제33회 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의’를 앞두고 전국적인 국토대청결 캠페인 추진 필요성이 논의되면서 마련된 사업이다. 지난 9월 22일부터 2차례에 걸쳐 진행된 이번 캠페인에서 부산시는 공공기관, 민간단체, 시민이 함께 참여해 도시 미관 개선에 나섰다.

캠페인 개시일인 9월 22일에는 부산시 새마을회 회원 40여 명이 경기도 화성시로 올라가 전국적 쓰레기 수거 활동에 참여했으며, 부산역에서는 바르게살기운동협의회 회원 400여 명이 역 주변 청소에 나섰다. 서면 번화가에서는 자유총연맹 부산시지부 400여 명이 전국체전 홍보와 함께 거리 정화활동을 펼쳤고, 아시아드주경기장 일대에서는 이·통장연합회 회원 300여 명이 환경정비 및 체전 홍보캠페인을 실시했다.

부산시는 캠페인 기간을 포함한 9월 두 달간 47곳에서 총 2,231명이 참여해 48.2톤의 쓰레기를 수거했다. 해양 분야에서는 한국해양구조협회와 협력해 영도구, 기장군 해안 일대에서 침적 폐기물을 인양하고 폐타이어 등 20톤가량을 처리했다. 또한 송정해수욕장, 해운대 특구공원 등 주요 관광지에서는 13톤의 쓰레기를 수거했으며, 전국체전 성화 봉송과 마라톤, 철인 3종 경기가 열리는 도로 주변에서도 불법 현수막 제거, 보도블록 정비 등 환경개선이 이뤄졌다.

시는 전국(장애인)체전 개최를 앞두고 추진된 ‘대한민국 새단장’ 캠페인이 사전 환경정비 효과를 높여 도시 전반의 청결 수준 향상에 큰 도움이 됐다고 설명했다.

조영태 부산시 행정자치국장은 “공무원과 민간단체, 지역 기업이 자발적으로 동참해 준 덕분에 좋은 성과를 거둘 수 있었다”며 “해외 관광객 300만 시대에 걸맞은 청결하고 쾌적한 도시를 만들겠다”고 말했다.

**City recognized by Ministry of the Interior and Safety for outstanding environmental cleanup efforts**

Busan Metropolitan City announced that it has been selected as the top metropolitan government in the nationwide “Korea Makeover” evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The city outperformed all 17 metropolitan and provincial governments and will receive a special allocation grant of 200 million won as an incentive.  

The “Korea Makeover” campaign was launched following a Cabinet meeting that highlighted the need for a large-scale national cleanliness drive ahead of the Chuseok holidays and the 33rd APEC Summit. The initiative ran in two phases—from September 22 to October 1, and from October 24 to 28—mobilizing local governments and civic groups across the nation.  

At the campaign’s start, about 40 members of the Busan Saemaeul Association joined cleanup activities in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Around 400 members of the Busan Council for Upright Movement carried out sanitation efforts around Busan Station, while another 400 members of the Korea Freedom Federation’s Busan Branch conducted street cleanups and promoted the National Sports Festival in Seomyeon. In addition, around 300 members of the Busan Community Leaders Association participated in environmental maintenance and promotional activities near the Busan Asiad Main Stadium, the venue of the festival’s opening ceremony.  

During the two-month cleanup period beginning September 1, a total of 2,231 participants took part in 47 cleanup operations across the city, collecting approximately 48.2 tons of waste. Coastal areas in Yeongdo-gu and Gijang-gun were cleared in cooperation with the Korea Marine Rescue Association, removing about 20 tons of sunken marine debris including discarded tires. Major tourist destinations such as Songjeong Beach and Haeundae Special Tourism Zone saw 13 tons of waste removed, and cleanup activities along major roads used for the torch relay, marathon, and triathlon events of the National Sports Festival eliminated an additional 3 tons.  

City officials noted that the synergy between the pre-festival environmental maintenance and the nationwide “Korea Makeover” campaign contributed greatly to enhancing Busan’s overall cleanliness and livability.

As Busan welcomes more than three million international visitors, we will continue to build a cleaner and more pleasant urban environment.”
