[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 26일 오후 부산항국제컨벤션센터에서 ‘부산항 개항 150주년 기념식’을 열고, 지난 150년의 항만 역사를 돌아보며 미래 해양산업의 중심도시로 도약할 비전을 제시했다.  

 

이번 행사는 26일부터 27일까지 이틀간 진행되며, ▲부산항 개항 150주년 기념식 ▲제2회 친환경 북극항로 포럼 ▲부산항 개항 150주년 학술심포지엄 ▲2076년 개항 200주년 타임캡슐 봉안식 등 네 가지 주요 프로그램으로 구성됐다.  

 

기념식에는 박형준 부산시장과 조승환 국회의원, 김성범 해양수산부 장관 직무대행, 송상근 부산항만공사 사장, 양재생 부산상공회의소 회장, 임기택 국제해사기구(IMO) 명예사무총장 등 주요 인사들이 참석했다.  

 

150주년 기념식  

공식 기념식은 ‘2076년 개항 200주년 타임캡슐 봉안’을 상징하는 단체사진 촬영으로 시작됐다. 이어 150주년 타북, 공로자 표창, 주제시 ‘150년 부산항 살으리랏다’ 낭독, 부산항 약사 영상 상영, 타임캡슐 봉안식 순으로 진행됐다.  

 

특히 이번 기념식은 ‘근대항 개항 이후 산업화와 세계화의 여정을 함께해 온 부산항이 미래 해양 메가포트로 도약한다’는 것을 주제로 삼아, 부산항의 역사적 발자취와 새로운 100년의 방향을 함께 조망했다.  

 

친환경 북극항로 포럼  

둘째 날 오전에는 부산항만공사 주관으로 ‘제2회 친환경 북극항로 포럼’이 열린다. 포럼에서는 국내외 해운 전문가들이 북극항로를 통한 저탄소 해상물류 전략, 친환경 선박 기술, 북극권 국가 간 협력방안을 논의하며 기후 대응형 해운산업의 비전을 모색한다.  

 

부산항 학술심포지엄  

오후에는 ‘부산항을 사랑하는 시민모임’ 주관으로 ‘부산항 개항 150주년 학술심포지엄’이 열려, 부산항의 역사적 의미와 현대 항만의 도전과제를 논의한다. 세션에서는 디지털 전환에 따른 스마트 항만 구축, 물류 인프라 고도화, 동북아 해운 경쟁력 강화 전략 등이 다뤄질 예정이다.

타임캡슐 봉안 행사  

기념식의 백미인 타임캡슐 봉안에는 부산해사고등학교와 한국해양대학교 학생들이 함께 참여했다. 학생들은 부산항의 미래 비전과 시민의 메시지를 봉인하며, ‘부산항의 다음 100년은 미래세대와 함께 준비한다’는 상징적 의미를 더했다.  

 

박형준 시장은 “부산항은 지난 150년 동안 대한민국의 산업화와 세계화를 이끈 생존의 항구이자 기회의 항구였다”며 “이제 부산항을 글로벌 해양질서를 선도하는 항만으로 성장시켜 해양수도 부산의 위상을 한층 높이겠다”고 말했다.

The city of Busan hosted a ceremony on Thursday at the Busan Port International Convention Center to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the port’s opening, reflecting on its century-and-a-half legacy and unveiling a vision to transform Busan into a global maritime hub city of the future.  

 

The two-day celebration, held from February 26 to 27, features four main events: the official commemorative ceremony, the 2nd Eco-Friendly Arctic Route Forum, the Busan Port 150th Anniversary Academic Symposium, and a symbolic time capsule ceremony marking the port’s 200th-year milestone in 2076.  

 

The main ceremony brought together leading figures from Korea’s maritime and port sectors, including Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, National Assembly member Cho Seung-hwan, Acting Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Sung-beom, Busan Port Authority President Song Sang-geun, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Yang Jae-saeng, and former IMO Secretary-General Lim Ki-tack.  

 

The 150th Anniversary Ceremony  

The commemorative ceremony began with a group photo of participants marking the burial of a time capsule to be opened on the port’s 200th anniversary. It was followed by a ceremonial drum performance celebrating the port’s history, an award presentation recognizing contributors to Busan Port’s development, a poetry reading titled *“150 Years of Busan Port,”* and a short film tracing Busan Port’s evolution from its opening in 1876 to its current role as a major global maritime gateway.  

The ceremony’s theme—*“From an Open Port to a Global Mega Port”*—highlighted Busan’s ambition to position itself at the center of the world’s next maritime transformation.  

 

Eco-Friendly Arctic Route Forum  

The second day begins with the 2nd Eco-Friendly Arctic Route Forum, hosted by the Busan Port Authority. Scholars and industry experts from Korea and abroad will discuss strategies for sustainable Arctic shipping, low-carbon maritime logistics, and international cooperation among Arctic nations to balance trade potential with climate responsibility.  

 

Academic Symposium  

In the afternoon, the Busan Port 150th Anniversary Academic Symposium—organized by the Civic Association for Busan Port—will explore the port’s historical importance and its path forward in an era of digital transformation. Topics include smart port operations, infrastructure innovation, and policy measures to strengthen Busan’s competitiveness as Northeast Asia’s logistics hub.  

 

The Time Capsule and Future Generations  

A symbolic highlight of the commemoration was the time capsule ceremony, which included participation from students of Busan Maritime High School and Korea Maritime & Ocean University. The capsule, containing citizens’ messages and maritime artifacts, will be opened in 2076, reflecting the spirit that the future of Busan Port will be shaped together with the next generation.  

 

Mayor Park remarked, “For the past 150 years, Busan Port has been Korea’s harbor of survival and a gateway of opportunity that powered the nation’s rise into a top-ten global economy. Going forward, we will steer the port toward becoming a global leader in the maritime order and strengthen Busan’s standing as a true ocean city of the world.”
