[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘 강선영 국회의원이 국방부의 전직 장성 파면 조치를 두고 “평생을 바친 충성이 ‘파면’으로 돌아오는 나라에서 누가 국가를 위해 헌신하겠느냐”며 정면으로 비판했다.

강 의원은 28일 자신의 페이스북을 통해 전 합동참모본부 전비태세검열실 차장을 지낸 이재식 장군이 파면 통보를 받은 사실을 공개하며, 이를 “참군인의 삶을 송두리째 뽑아낸 정치적 결정”이라고 규정했다.

강 의원은 “얼마 전 국방부는 법치와 절차를 무시한 채 단 3일 만에 징계를 뒤집어 육군 법무실장을 강등시키더니, 이제는 또 한 명의 장성을 파면했다”며 “이제 국방부는 참군인을 지켜야 할 조직이 아니라 숙청의 도구가 됐다”고 비판했다.

그는 이 장군에 대해 “비상계엄 당시 현장의 혼란 속에서도 ‘공포탄과 테이저건 사용은 안 된다’며 국민의 안전을 지키기 위해 소신을 지킨 인물”이라며 “34년간 사리사욕 없이 오직 군인의 본분만을 다해온 사람”이라고 강조했다.

강 의원은 “그에게 돌아온 것은 포상이 아니라 명예 박탈과 인격 살인이었다”며 “이것이 과연 대한민국 국방의 정의냐”고 반문했다.

강 의원은 이 장군이 전우들에게 남긴 마지막 편지도 공개했다. 편지에는 “34년간의 충심이 부정당했다는 생각에 환멸을 느끼지만, 그 대상이 우리 군은 아니다"라는 문장이 담겼다고 전했다.

People Power Party lawmaker Kang Sun-young strongly criticized the Ministry of National Defense’s decision to dismiss a former general, saying, “In a country where a lifetime of loyal service is repaid with ‘dismissal,’ who would be willing to devote themselves to the nation?”

On the 28th, Rep. Kang revealed on her Facebook page that General Lee Jae-sik, former deputy director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Combat Readiness Inspection Office, had been notified of his dismissal. She described the decision as “a political one that has uprooted the life of a true soldier.”

Kang stated, “Not long ago, the Ministry of National Defense ignored the rule of law and proper procedures and reversed a disciplinary action in just three days to demote the Army’s chief legal officer. Now it has dismissed yet another general,” adding, “The ministry is no longer an organization that protects true soldiers, but a tool of purge.”

She emphasized that General Lee, “amid the confusion on the ground during the state of emergency, stood by his convictions to protect the public’s safety by insisting that blank ammunition and tasers should not be used,” and described him as “a man who, for 34 years, carried out only a soldier’s duty without any personal gain.”

“What he received in return was not commendation, but the stripping of his honor and the destruction of his character,” Kang said, asking, “Is this truly justice in the Republic of Korea’s national defense?”

Rep. Kang also shared what she described as General Lee’s final letter to his comrades. According to her, the letter included the line: “I feel disillusioned that my 34 years of loyalty have been denied, but the object of that disillusionment is not our military.”
