[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘은 이재명 정부가 초대 기획예산처 장관으로 이혜훈 전 의원을 지명한 데 대해 “정권 몰락의 시발점이 될 오판”이라며 지명 철회를 촉구했다. 당은 해당 인사를 “정책 기조가 전혀 맞지 않는 인물에 대한 배신자 코드의 탕평인사”라고 규정했다.

국민의힘 원내수석대변인 최수진은 29일 논평을 통해 “아무리 탕평인사라 하더라도 최소한 국정 철학과 경제 인식이 맞는 인물을 기용해야 한다”며 “경제적 관념이 전혀 다른 사람을 국가 재정을 총괄하는 자리에 앉히는 것은 시한폭탄을 안고 국정을 운영하는 것과 다름없다”고 밝혔다.

최 대변인은 특히 기획예산처의 역할을 언급하며 “기획예산처 설립 목적이 민생 파탄은 아니지 않느냐”고 반문했다. 이어 “이혜훈 전 의원은 과거 이재명 대통령과의 TV 토론에서 반대 의견을 분명히 밝혀온 인물”이라며 “이제 와서 이재명 정부의 확장 재정과 포퓰리즘 정책에 앞장서는 것은 명백한 자기부정”이라고 지적했다.

이 전 의원의 정치 이력에 대해서도 강도 높은 비판이 이어졌다. 최 대변인은 “이혜훈 전 의원은 서초갑 지역구에서 국민의힘 소속으로 3선을 했고, 2012년에는 최고위원에 당선됐으며, 최근까지도 서울 중구성동 지역 당협위원장을 맡고 있었다”며 “국민의힘에서 정치적 혜택을 모두 누리며 입지를 다져온 인물”이라고 밝혔다.

그러면서 “그런 인물이 개인적인 정치적 재기를 위해 국가 재정을 볼모로 삼으려 한다면 이는 명백한 변절”이라며 “지지해준 국민과 당을 배신하는 행위”라고 비판했다.

국민의힘은 이 전 의원이 과거 작성한 SNS 게시물을 비공개로 전환한 점도 문제 삼았다. 최 대변인은 “이재명 정부와 상반된 기조의 글들이 문제가 될까 우려해 감춘 것으로 보인다”며 “과거 발언조차 떳떳하지 못한 사람이 어떻게 인사청문회를 감당할 수 있겠느냐”고 말했다. 이어 “청문회 이전에 스스로 자격을 돌아봐야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

당은 이번 인사가 이 전 의원 개인에게도 정치적 치명타가 될 것이라고 주장했다. 최 대변인은 “이혜훈 전 의원은 이번 선택으로 국민의힘에 다시 돌아올 수 없는 다리를 건넜다”며 “지금은 입신양명에 눈이 멀었을지 모르나, 결국 모든 것을 잃게 될 것”이라고 경고했다.

마지막으로 국민의힘은 이재명 정부를 향해 “이혜훈 전 의원 발탁에 어떤 정치적 고려와 내막이 있었는지 알 수 없지만, 지금이라도 지명을 철회해야 한다”며 “도탄에 빠진 민생을 책임질 수 있는 진짜 전문가를 찾으라”고 촉구했다. 이어 “국민의 인내심은 이미 한계를 넘어섰다”고 강조했다.

The People Power Party (PPP) has called on the Lee Jae-myung administration to withdraw its nomination of former lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon as the first Minister of Planning and Budget, calling it “a misjudgment that will mark the beginning of the regime’s collapse.” The party characterized the appointment as a “power-sharing gesture toward a political betrayer whose policy orientation is completely incompatible with the government.”

PPP Floor Spokesperson Choi Soo-jin said in a commentary on the 29th, “Even in the name of power-sharing, the government must at least appoint someone whose governing philosophy and economic outlook align with its own,” adding, “Placing someone with fundamentally different economic views in charge of national finances is no different from running the state with a time bomb.”

Choi specifically referenced the role of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, asking rhetorically, “Was the purpose of establishing the Ministry of Planning and Budget to destroy people’s livelihoods?” She continued, “Former lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon has clearly expressed opposing views to President Lee Jae-myung in past TV debates. For her now to take the lead in the Lee Jae-myung administration’s expansionary fiscal policy and populist agenda would be an obvious act of self-contradiction.”

The PPP also leveled strong criticism at Lee’s political background. Choi stated, “Lee Hye-hoon served three terms as a lawmaker from Seocho-gap under the People Power Party, was elected as a Supreme Council member in 2012, and until recently served as the party chair for the Jung-gu–Seongdong district in Seoul,” adding, “She is someone who built her political standing while enjoying every benefit the People Power Party had to offer.”

“She is now attempting to hold national finances hostage for the sake of her personal political comeback,” Choi argued. “That is a clear act of defection and a betrayal of both the party and the citizens who supported her.”

The party also took issue with Lee’s decision to make past social media posts private. “It appears she hid posts that conflicted with the Lee Jae-myung administration’s policy direction out of concern they might become problematic,” Choi said. “How can someone who is not even forthright about her past statements withstand a confirmation hearing?” She added that Lee “should reflect on her own qualifications before the hearing even begins.”

The PPP further claimed that the appointment would be politically disastrous for Lee herself. “With this decision, Lee Hye-hoon has crossed a bridge from which she can never return to the People Power Party,” Choi warned. “She may be blinded by ambition right now, but in the end, she will lose everything.”

In closing, the PPP urged the Lee Jae-myung administration to reconsider. “We do not know what political calculations or backroom dealings lay behind the selection of Lee Hye-hoon, but the nomination must be withdrawn immediately,” Choi said. “Find a true expert who can take responsibility for an economy and livelihoods already in distress.”

She concluded by emphasizing, “The public’s patience has already reached its limit.”
