[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 한국해양진흥공사가 해운·항만물류 기업의 인공지능(AI) 관련 법적 리스크를 줄이고 안전한 기술 도입을 지원하기 위해 ‘해양산업 AI 가이드라인’을 처음 발간했다.

해진공은 12일 이번 가이드라인이 오는 22일 시행되는 ‘인공지능 발전과 신뢰 기반 조성 등에 관한 기본법’(AI 기본법)에 해운·항만 기업들이 선제적으로 대응하는 데 도움을 주기 위해 마련됐다고 밝혔다. AI 기본법은 AI 기술 개발 기업뿐 아니라 이를 도입·활용하는 기업에도 법적 책임을 지우는 내용을 담고 있다.

이번 가이드라인은 해양산업 특화 첫 AI 지침서로, AI 개념과 수명주기 단계별 기술적·윤리적 고려사항, AI 서비스 도입 체크리스트, 용어 해설 등을 포함해 현장에서 바로 참고할 수 있도록 구성했다. 특히 해양산업에서 인명 피해와 직결될 수 있는 ‘고영향 AI’ 가운데 선박, 채용, 대출심사 분야를 중점적으로 다뤘으며, 선원이 개입하지 않는 완전자율운항선박의 AI 오작동에 대비한 점검 목록도 담았다.

안병길 사장은 “해양산업은 AI 활용 효과가 큰 산업인 동시에 안전과 직결되는 만큼 신중한 접근이 필요하다”며 “기업들이 AI 기술을 안전하게 도입해 국제 경쟁력을 강화할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 말했다. 해양산업 AI 가이드라인은 해진공 홈페이지와 해양산업 AX 사이트에서 PDF 전자파일로 무료 내려받을 수 있다.

=Preemptive response to AI Framework Act…support to minimize legal risks

Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) has published its first “AI Guidelines for the Maritime Industry” to help shipping and port logistics companies reduce legal risks related to artificial intelligence (AI) and introduce the technology safely.  

KOBC said on the 12th that the guidelines were prepared to help maritime companies respond preemptively to the “Framework Act on the Promotion of Artificial Intelligence and the Establishment of Trust” (AI Framework Act), which will take effect on the 22nd. The act imposes legal responsibilities not only on AI technology developers but also on companies that adopt and utilize AI systems.  

As the first AI guidebook tailored to the maritime sector, the publication covers AI concepts, technical and ethical considerations across the AI lifecycle, a checklist for introducing AI services, and a glossary of terms, making it readily applicable in day-to-day operations. In particular, it focuses on “high-impact AI” areas in the maritime industry that could directly lead to loss of life, such as vessels, recruitment, and credit screening, and includes a checklist to prevent casualties and vessel damage in the case of fully autonomous ships operating without crew intervention.  

KOBC President Ahn Byung-gil said, “The maritime industry is a sector where AI can generate significant benefits, but it is also directly linked to safety, so a prudent approach is essential,” adding that KOBC “will continue to support companies in adopting AI technologies safely and strengthening their global competitiveness.” The maritime AI guidelines are available for download in PDF format on the KOBC website and the Maritime Industry AX platform.
