[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 제23회 전국장애인동계체육대회’가 27일부터 30일까지 강원특별자치도 일원에서 열린다. 이번 대회는 문화체육관광부가 후원하고 대한장애인체육회가 주최하며 강원특별자치도가 주관한다.  

올해 대회에는 전국 17개 시도에서 선수 486명과 임원‧관계자 641명 등 총 1,127명이 참가해 7개 종목에서 기량을 겨룬다. 크로스컨트리스키, 바이애슬론, 알파인스키, 스노보드는 평창 알펜시아와 휘닉스파크 일대에서, 아이스하키와 컬링은 강릉 하키·컬링센터에서, 빙상(쇼트트랙)은 춘천 송암스포츠타운 빙상경기장에서 각각 열린다.  

2004년 첫 대회를 시작으로 올해 23회째를 맞은 이번 장애인동계체전은 국내 장애인 동계스포츠의 발전과 저변 확대에 중요한 역할을 해왔다. 선수들에게는 기량을 선보이고 성장할 수 있는 무대가 되고 있다.  

특히 올해 대회에는 오는 3월 열리는 ‘제14회 밀라노-코르티나담페초 동계패럴림픽’에 출전할 국내 정상급 선수들이 다수 참가해 관심을 모은다.

[Here’s the English news article version] The 23rd National Winter Para Games Open in Gangwon Province — 1,127 Participants from 17 Cities and Provinces

The 23rd National Winter Para Games kicked off on January 27 and will run through January 30 across Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. The event is hosted by the Korea Paralympic Committee (KPC), supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and organized by the Gangwon provincial government.  

A total of 1,127 athletes and officials from 17 cities and provinces are taking part in the competition, which features seven winter sports. Cross-country skiing, biathlon, alpine skiing, and snowboarding events are being held at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre and Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang. Ice hockey and curling are staged at the Gangneung Hockey and Curling Centre, while short track speed skating takes place at the Chuncheon Songam Sports Town Ice Rink.  

Since its inaugural event in 2004, the National Winter Para Games has grown into a key platform for athletes with disabilities to showcase their skills and foster the development of winter para sports in Korea.  

This year's tournament draws particular attention as it features many of the nation’s top athletes who will compete in the 14th Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo 2026 Winter Paralympics in March.  

Under the slogan “Challenge Toward a Dream! Soar High in Gangwon!”, all events are open to the public free of charge.
