[Here’s an English news version based on Korean article] Busan Mayor Park Heong joon Inspects Emergency and Transport Sites Ahead of Lunar New Year
Busan Mayor Park Heong joon inspected key emergency and transport sites ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday to check safety and support systems for citizens.
On the 12th, Park visited the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters 119 General Situation Room, Dongnae Bong Seng Hospital and the Busan Central Bus Terminal to review emergency medical services and special holiday transport measures. He used the visits to encourage frontline staff working through the holidays and to check how well the city, fire authorities and emergency medical institutions are coordinating their response systems.
At the 119 General Situation Room, Park was briefed on the operation of the emergency dispatch control center and on the patient transport system. The center handles disaster response and provides information on hospitals and pharmacies around the clock, and has increased staff and put emergency call handling teams on standby for the Lunar New Year period so it can give real time guidance on more than 1,000 medical institutions and reduce citizens anxiety about medical gaps during the holiday.
Park also met firefighters on special holiday duty to thank them for their work and urged them to maintain thorough emergency response and disaster readiness. The Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters is running a special fire station alert period from February 13 to 19 focusing on on site safety checks, removal of risk factors and stronger early response to prevent fires and major disasters.
The mayor then moved to Dongnae Bong Seng Hospital, a local emergency medical center, to examine its holiday emergency care operations and contingency plans. He checked the 24 hour emergency room system and staff working conditions and listened to on site opinions on difficulties in selecting hospitals and transferring patients during the holiday, as well as areas in need of improvement.
City officials say Busan is gradually building a Busan style emergency medical system to cope quickly and systematically with surging holiday demand. Key measures include designating a regional trauma center to clarify the chain from initial treatment to final care for serious trauma patients and introducing a step by step treatment system for acute drug intoxication cases to reduce structural problems such as hospitals refusing patients and repeated transfers.
To minimize any gap in emergency care over the Lunar New Year, the city will keep 29 emergency medical institutions operating around the clock and run emergency medical control rooms at the city and district public health centers. A joint emergency response system linking the city, public health centers, fire authorities and emergency medical institutions will also operate to ensure tight management of all situations.
Park will also visit the Busan Central Bus Terminal to check special holiday transport measures and safety. He plans to review safety management in waiting rooms and boarding areas, emergency staffing plans and the schedule of additional services at a site expected to face heavy passenger crowds during the holiday. The city is preparing to expand the capacity of buses, rail and air services, secure temporary parking lots, strengthen safety checks at transport facilities and operate a traffic control situation room.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday on the 14th, Park is scheduled to inspect crowd management and safety at the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show special performance at the Suyeong gu Life Culture Center. He will then visit the expressway patrol unit at the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency to review highway safety management and encourage officers on duty.
Park said he was grateful to the many people who quietly devote themselves at their posts in emergency medical services and transport and stressed that the city would manage overall holiday operations thoroughly so citizens can enjoy a safe and comfortable Lunar New Year.
