[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 29일 오후 강서구에서 ‘우리동네 사회가치경영(ESG) 센터’ 강서점을 개소했다. 이날 행사에는 박형준 부산시장과 김형찬 강서구청장, 정지영 현대백화점 대표이사, 김영번 롯데케미칼 커뮤니케이션부문장, 부산은행 및 한국노인인력개발원 관계자 등이 참석했다.  

이번에 문을 연 강서점은 폐원한 낙동재가노인요양센터를 리모델링해 새롭게 조성한 곳으로, 유휴시설을 친환경 공간으로 탈바꿈한 사례다. 시는 이곳을 ‘지속 가능한 환경보호를 실천하는 거점’으로 삼고 지역 내 탄소중립 활동과 사회가치경영 확산의 기반으로 활용할 계획이다.  

센터는 명지지구와 에코델타시티 인근 지역 특성을 반영해 환경 실천과 공동체 참여 프로그램 중심으로 운영된다. 환경보호와 탄소중립 교육, 자원순환 체험, 주민 참여형 사회가치경영 활동, 지역문제 해결 프로그램 등을 통해 시민들이 생활 속에서 ESG를 접하고 실천할 수 있도록 한다.  

부산시는 올해부터 본격 시행되는 유럽연합의 탄소국경조정제도에 선제 대응하기 위해 지역 공공기관·기업과 협력해 연내 16호점까지 센터를 확대할 계획이다. 또한 지역별 특성에 맞춘 환경교육과 홍보를 강화하고, 구·군 및 민간과의 협업을 통해 사회가치경영 문화를 지역 전반으로 확산시킬 방침이다.

‘우리동네 사회가치경영(ESG) 센터’는 부산시가 추진하는 15분 도시 정책의 일환으로, 주민이 주체가 되는 교육·체험·소통 공간을 통해 지속 가능한 지역사회를 실현하는 것을 목표로 한다. 지금까지 센터를 통해 어르신 일자리 3500여 개를 창출하고, 플라스틱 126톤을 수거했으며, 2만 명이 넘는 시민이 환경교육과 체험 프로그램에 참여하는 성과를 냈다.  

박형준 시장은 “ESG 센터는 시민이 함께 만드는 생활밀착형 탄소중립 거점이자 세대와 세대를 잇는 공동체 모델”이라며 “앞으로도 시민과 함께 사회가치경영 실천을 확산시켜 지속 가능한 도시 부산의 경쟁력을 높여 나가겠다”고 말했다.

The city of Busan opened a new Woori Neighborhood ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Center in Gangseo District on Thursday, aiming to promote community engagement in sustainable practices and carbon neutrality.  

Mayor Park Heong-joon attended the opening ceremony along with Gangseo District Chief Kim Hyung-chan, Hyundai Department Store CEO Jung Ji-young, Lotte Chemical Communication Head Kim Young-beon, and representatives from BNK Busan Bank and the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged.  

The Gangseo branch, the sixth of its kind, was remodeled from a former senior care facility. The city repurposed the unused building as a community hub for environmental action, reflecting the area’s location near Myeongji District and Eco Delta City.  

The center will offer climate education, recycling programs, and community-based ESG activities designed to help residents practice sustainability in their daily lives.  

Busan plans to expand the network to 16 centers by the end of this year in cooperation with local public agencies and private companies. The effort is part of the city’s proactive response to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which took effect on January 1, 2026.  

Since the initiative began, ESG centers have created about 3,500 senior jobs, collected 126 tons of plastic waste, and provided environmental education and hands-on programs to more than 20,000 citizens.  

“The ESG Center is a neighborhood-based platform that connects generations through sustainability, from children’s environmental education to senior employment,” Park said. “We will continue expanding ESG initiatives to strengthen Busan’s competitiveness as a sustainable city.”
